In this self-directed contract project, I interviewed clinicians and hospital staff to assess needs, designed 3D-printing solutions for better healthcare products and practices, and developed business cases for clinical and patient education. Key accomplishments • Created and developed products to enhance preoperative planning and patient mobility, such as 3D-printed braces, arthritic splints, customized medical-imaging braces, medical education and diagnostic tools. Using SolidWorks and numerous other CAD platforms.• Conducted stringent risk assessments and product evaluations to determine the compliance of products to regulations and standards set by Health Canada, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory bodies. • Created a product and scheme selected for further assessment by Trillium Health Partners that eventually came to be used independently by other hospitals. • Developed procedures to reduce model creation time from 6 hours to 20 minutes through the use of surface modeling and GrassHopper. This was to create a standardized system to implement within the current hospital workflow as to not create delays in patient throughput.• Used different creativity and innovation methods to engage front line caregivers and stake holders to fully define the problems they were facing. Through this information I put together different areas and products that we could focus on to define the project. This was done through varied methods of brainstorming, research, observation, filtering, and engagement to create a completed project scope and goals.
