Douglas D. May is currently an Associate professor at The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, and owner of May & Co., a Dallas-based design consultancy. He holds an MFA with an Emphasis in Visual Communication from Texas A&M Commerce - Dallas. Doug earned his undergraduate degrees from the Art Center College of Design and The University of North Texas with a focus on Design and Visual Communication. He began his career in New York, where he worked on accounts such as E.F. Hutton, Shiseido Cosmetics, and CBS Magazines. After being recruited by Stan Richards and moving to Dallas, he later founded the design communications firm May & Co. in 1986 and has since created effective and memorable communication solutions for notable clientele, including work for Aetna, AT&T, Neiman Marcus, PageNet, Overhead Door, Kaiser Permanente, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ryan, Texas Instruments, and The Washington Opera. May has won over 200 design awards including local, national, and international recognition for branding, print, and digital communications.The Golden Egg Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dallas Society of Visual Communications tops his professional recognition, design awards, and career achievements – including becoming an AIGA Fellow recipient in 2011 and receiving the AAF Dallas 2020 Educator of the Year. He is a past board member and officer of AIGA/DFW and a past president of the Dallas Society of Visual Communications. He has served as an advisor to local colleges and has judged major design competitions in the U.S. and Mexico.
