I researched California environmental laws and wrote memoranda on topics such as hazardous waste disposal, environmental justice laws and policies, the federal Clean Water Act, California regional transportation planning, greenhouse gas mitigation requirements in CEQA, and the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act.Wrote a memorandum that analyzed whether a California County General Plan sufficiently addressed environmental justice concerns. My work was used in discussions with the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, and parts of it were subsequently incorporated into an updated draft of the General Plan. The update included my suggestions of highlighting the importance of environmental justice within each planning element, as well as my recommendation for using a definition of sustainability that included the triple-bottom-line of economic viability, environmental protection, and social justice.Additionally, I conducted research and wrote a memorandum on an issue for an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court in the case of Los Angeles County Flood Control District v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. (2013).
