As the leader of NPR's "Next Generation Radio," my focus has been on discovering and nurturing emerging talent in journalism. We've created a digital-first multimedia platform that showcases local stories and serves as a training ground for future journalists, media professionals and leaders. My role has evolved. I spend most of my time guiding our curated community, helping dissect all the nuanced ups and downs that come with life and work.Our team's digital sprints and the extended work of nurturing our 700+ member community means we have built a network of empathetic and driven people who will one day lead from wherever they sit or stand. With competencies in editorial, new media, and social networking, our mission extends to fostering inclusion within the industry. I am honored by multiple awards, including the Race Amity Medal of Honor, the Diversity and Inclusion Award at NPR, and the ONA Community Service Award.Additionally, I work as a mentor/agent for hundreds of people as they search, land, and hopefully maintain their careers. I have a wide range of professional relationships and I work to keep them. It's not about me, but being in service to our community and encouraging the notion that we are all connected in some way as people and should be working across, not vertically.
