The Water-Energy-Carbon Research Group is a team of engineers and scientists at UQ exploring the urban water-energy-carbon nexus. I am worked as a research engineer within the group, supporting projects investigating energy use related to water use in urban Australia.

Nepal

NEWAH are a non-government water and sanitation organisation servicing rural Nepal. I was seconded by Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB) to lead a participatory action research project, developing and piloting a climate change adaptation and disaster risk management approach for water supply and sanitation projects in rural Nepali communities. Key aspects of the role included:- project design, budgeting and management;- field-based research;- team coordination; and- additional partnership building duties on behalf of EWB, liaising with international development organisations in Nepal.

The Bligh Tanner Integrated Water Planning Team is an industry leading engineering design group with a reputation for innovation in alternative water and wastewater systems. Key aspects of my role included: - detailed design and performance review of decentralised water and wastewater systems;- research into potential impacts of decentralised systems on human and environmental health; and- risk assessment and management planning to ensure system safety and reliability.

MWH Global provides consulting services to water and wastewater utilities, and environmental policy makers and regulators including state government agencies. Key aspects of my role were:- detailed water end use modelling and analysis;- research to inform the development of water treatment and supply policies at local and state level;- development of strategic frameworks for infrastructure planning policies; and - development of technical tools and materials to support water using industries in achieving best practice water management.
