Overview over my most notable projects:--- Development of a prototype to evaluate a new business area --- The goal of the project was the development of a minimum viable product to evaluate a new potential business area. The specifications asked for a technological leadership position while keeping the production cost on the level of the competitors. Furthermore, a business case should be developed and validated by building up customer relations.* Project staffing: 10 employees at 2 sites* Role: Project lead and individual contributor* Result: Economical and technological goals could be achieved--- Concept for minimum viable product of a cost-effective servo motor --- Execution of a design study for a servo motor with a semi-automated optimization environment. Secondary goal was the training of a new employee in using the aforementioned tools.* Project staffing: 2 employees at 1 site* Role: Project lead and individual contributor* Result: Identification of a design which can reach the specified performance and cost targets--- Software library for calculation of electric motors (private project) --- This library is a private project of mine which has been in development during the last 4 years using Python, Julia and Rust and currently sits at approximately 130k lines of code. It contains a bespoke geometry package including visualization tools, a modular system for combining different physical motor models covering both the electromagnetic and the thermal domain, triangulation algorithms, optimizers for calculating operating points and a GUI (based on GTK) for interactively evaluating electric motor windings. While writing the library, I dealt with topics such as optimization algorithms, floating-point arithmetic, runtime efficiency, asynchronous and synchronous multithreading, SIMD / vectorization, manual memory management and low-level data structures (including time-space trade-off problems). My publications:

During my time as a research associate, I had two main responsibilities: the ground-up development of a novel electric motor concept and teaching.Focal point: Ground-up development of a novel electric motor conceptThis project was the basis for my PhD thesis with the title "Permanentmagneterregte Line-Start-Antriebe in Ferrittechnik" (permanent magnet line-start drives in ferrite technology). It included the following tasks:- Analytical and FEM design studies for various IPM line-start motors using a self-programmed Matlab model with nonlinear solvers- CAD drawing of the lamination- Coordination of the prototype manufacturing together with multiple external companies- Design and manufacturing of a test bench for varying the inertia of the drive train- Measurement of the prototypes on different test benches- Comparison of calculation and measurement resultsFocal point: Teaching- Holding lectures in electric drives- Creating and evaluating exams- Supervising students in the laboratoryIn the semi-annual student lecture survey, I won multiple awards for the best lecture.
