In a nutshell, I help European industries, multinational companies, importers, exporters and investors to navigate the complexities of the international trade rules to maximize the opportunities that these laws and regulations create. This may be obtaining protection from unfairly traded goods through the EU’s anti-dumping or anti-subsidy instruments or ensuring fair treatment of exporters and importers accused of such practices. Or, it can be implementing programmes to limit customs and import liabilities for companies selling to the EU. It can also be designing and implementing a strategy to help clients increase market access in third countries where foreign obstacle to trade block exports, sales or investment contrary to WTO law. Sometimes it also involves advising on export control regulations and international sanctions. Pursuing these solutions sometimes requires advocacy and/or litigation in front of the EU institutions and especially the European Commission, the EU General Court and the Court of Justice. I have been lead counsel in around thirty five actions and appeals before the European Courts resulting in several judgments shaping the application of the EU’s trade policy instruments. I have also handled more than eighty EU anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations.I have the pleasure of currently being Secretary-General of the European Trade Lawyers Association and Vice Chair of the Cross Border Practice Management Committee of the ABA International Law Section with particular responsibility for diversity.
