After completing a PhD, since September 2018 I have been researching and writing on topics including credit hire and insurance fraud. I became an Honorary Lecturer at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies at the University of Portsmouth in August 2019 and qualified as an Accredited Civil and Commercial Mediator in 2020. I have 40 years experience in accident management, developing software solutions, telematics, fraud investigation and vehicle rental and now provide consultancy services to CHOs and those exploring or invested in the market space. In March 2020, my first book on Credit Hire was published. I have worked in a privately funded environment and also with development capital (raising c. £35m) and as CEO (then Chairman) of a business initially placed on AIM and then admitted to the Official List. Participated in a series of public offerings; raised equity of c£50 million, asset funding of c£120 million and £50m Convertible Loan Notes before completing a take private in 2011.In 2010 I exposed what was probably the largest fraud against the civil justice system ever. 7 former employees of Autofocus admitted or were found to have committed perjury and contempt and were imprisoned. Working for insurers, they had routinely deployed dishonest evidence causing losses to my former employer in excess of £140m. I successfully compromised with 50 parties in respect of £16 million of claims, having first identified the scale of the fraud through some nifty detective work. The Group subsequently concluded a civil claim for damages for a substantial sum.I sat on the Executive Committee of The CHO (was chairman from 2012 until 2016), was former Chair of the AMA and represented the industry on the ABI Technical Committee for the GTA (General Terms of Agreement). I provided evidence to the Transport Committee on the cost of Motor Insurance in December 2010 and for the OFT in their review of the Private Motor Insurance Market as well as the Claims Regulator and the Competition Commission (CMA) when the OFT's enquiry became a referral for a market investigation.
