Dr Chow is a Translational Researcher with inter-disciplinary expertise in Infectious Diseases and Neuroscience, specifically viral genetics and evolution of HIV, Stroke and Cognition. She is deeply passionate about the brain, cognition and genetics. She has extensive experience in communicating with patients in clinical research with compassion, empathy and scientifc integrity in broad therapeutic areas specifically Stroke, Alzheimer's disease and Infectious Diseases. She has an internationally-recognised track record in HIV and Stroke research fields with significant contribution to advancements in medical research: - Discovered, sequenced and characterised the full-length genomes of 5 novel HIV Circulating Recombinant Forms (CRFs) among people who inject drugs in Malaysia with global epidemiological significance. - Advanced translational research in assessment of cognitive impairment post-stroke and novel therapies using translational touchscreen cognitive tests from bench-to-bedside in mouse model and stroke survivors in Australia. She has presented novel research findings in 4 prestigious international HIV and Stroke scientific conferences including: - The International Stroke Conference (ISC) 2019 in Hawaii, the world’s premier meeting dedicated to the science and treatment of cerebrovascular disease and brain health, and - 21st Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) 2014 in Boston, USA which presents important discoveries in the field, thereby accelerating progress in HIV/AIDS research. Her research excellence is internationally-recognised with 5 prestigious international scholarship awards including the Australian Postgraduate Award, International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (Australia), Young Investigator Award (CROI 2014) and International Scholarship Award (IAS 2013) (USA) and University of Malaya Fellowship Scheme (Malaysia). She is the first-author of 9 original research publications and co-authored 11 publications with colleagues in high impact journals including J. Virology, Stroke and Scientific Reports with 374 citations worldwide to date (h-index: 12).
