For over 20 years I have worked with school districts, state and county services, and community-based organizations to support students' development into mature, productive, healthy and happy adults. The inspiration for this life of service is found in the examples set by my teachers and school administrators who taught and helped raise me to be the man I am today. From my earliest years my teachers helped me find places to live, provided me clothing, food, and instilled in me a sense of community while inspiring me to continue my education and a life of service to others. That I've attained success in formal education and service as a scholar, teacher, coach, principal, CEO, and superintendent is a testament to personal grit and the ongoing care and support of my teachers and community. I feel I can be a helpful part of your school district’s mission to accelerate students’ learning and development through services ranging from Early Learning to Mental Health Support and Academic Excellence.I've earned several academic degrees culminating in a Doctorate in Education and I've attended professional training throughout my career. Such experiences have helped me to understand the importance of viable, sustainable systems, and a balanced budget that attends to the learning and development needs of all learners as well as the adults who teach and care for them.In my most recent position as Superintendent of the Merced City School District (MCSD) I led all operations ensuring promising and innovative instructional practice in classrooms, and fiscal and organizational stability for 19 schools and over 11,000 students. I was hired to lead the work of eliminating chronically low academic achievement among all student groups and to dismantle the infrastructure of inequity that has been particularly impactful to African American and Latinx students.
