A post-doctoral qualified engineer specialising in research and development. A wide experience of the mechanical engineering sector gained over seven years including experience internationally within the scientific research and energy sectors. Highly motivated and conscientious mentality combining with a collaborative style focused on achieving results. Professional Background:Horiba MIRA/Horiba: Senior Engineer working on development of new tools and processes to aid power train development for Real Driving Emissions compliance. My particular focus is development of tools for the chassis dynamometer that will enable replication of real world driving and real world conditions within the lab environment. See Featured section on my page for publications relating to this. Cenex Ltd: Technical Specialist role at Cenex focused on Heavy Duty fleet CO2/emissions projects in conjunction with the likes of TRL, OLEV and Innovate UK.Vayon Gas Technologies: Research and development engineer at Vayon Group in the Vayon Gas Technologies (VGT) business. Responsible for developing innovative dual-fuel engine controllers. VGT specialise in the conversion of large diesel engines to run on a mixture of diesel and natural gas. The role covered a broad range of engineering activities including developing ECU specs and requirements through to programming, creation of control strategies and concepts and engine testing (involving design of experiments and data analysis). PhD @ Loughborough University: I held a research post at Loughborough University where I obtained my PhD. My research focused on creation of a novel diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration method utilising the qualities of high voltage spark discharges to clean the DPF.Alstom Power: Graduate role within Steam Turbine Retrofits business.Personal Background and Interests:Originally from Middlesbrough in NE England, currently residing in East Leake. I have had a lifelong participation in swimming with over 20 years involved in competitive swimming. Having previously swam for Loughborough University and Loughborough Students Surf Lifesaving (latter to international level) I now continue competing with Loughborough Town Masters Swimming Club.Photography is a major hobby that has also seen some commercial success with comissions for the RNLI and the RLSS.

Researching a novel diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration system that utilises pulsed discharges as the major cleaning method.A 3 year project run in conjunction with the EPSRC and multiple private 3rd parties, one of whom is a large multi-national in the off-highway industry. This project has been truly multi-disciplinary, taking in aspects of mechanical, electrical and high voltage engineering. As such it has allowed me to work as part of a highly capable research team possessing multifarious skills and who posses highly respected expertise. A key part of my work on this project focuses on the usage of digital imaging, processing and computer based electrical circuit simulation in order to characterise clearly, the enabling aspect of the regeneration technology; the auto-selective nature of the spark discharge within the DPF. Additionally I have been able to utilise creativity in designing bespoke experimental apparatus and developing experimental methods in order to obtain the necessary quality of data befitting of research at this level. An example of this was the design of a specialist DPF canister allowing visual access to the filter substrate during filter loading and regeneration.I have been able author a paper for the SAE Technical Paper Series, the contents of which were presented to a large audience at the SAE world congress in Detroit in April 2013. I am also co-author of two further papers available in peer reviewed journals and a am currently preparing a second paper covering experimental methods directly related to the PhDThis work has also allowed me great experience of:* Specifying and installing data acquisition equipment for an engine test cell.* Extensive engine running/test cell operation* Exposure to TRL processes* Quarterly progress presentations to UK and US partners* Project management
Rugby, Uk
Graduate Engineer role at Alstom steam turbine retrofit division based in Rugby, Warwickshire.Highlights include:Developing a spread sheet with custom macros to aid the tracking of turbine parts from factory through to installation. Project and site managers were able to keep track of what parts had left the factory, what was currently in transit, what had arrived at site (and where it was stored) and what had been used or retrofitted at the power plant. This was kept in a central location for all involved to be kept in the loop. It was well received and subsequently used on further projects.I travelled to Cape Town, SA to work on the Koeberg nuclear plant retrofit. My responsibility there was the creation, delivery and management of quality control documentation which required tight co-ordination between multiple engineering teams (Alstom, Alstom France, Eskom, Rotek). This helped to ensure retrofit progressed on time and met the required standard of work expected of Alstom.
