I've had over 40 years of ministry experience but here are a few times that I consider as salient. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH - WILMINGTON, NCAs the Minister to Senior Adults, I revived an existing ministry that had lost some momentum. This involved a sit down lunch with lively fellowship and a 15 minute message. I recruited pastors from our staff as well as representatives from local missions that we supported to be these speakers. And we formed teams of seniors to cook the meals. We ate a lunch on each Tuesday at noon at our Activities Center. At one o'clock everything was finished. It grew from about 20 attendees to almost 100.I also worked with our homeless ministry. We fed 70-100 men, women and children every Tuesday night. After serving in the food line, I began delivering a short message. The results were amazing. As much as they needed physical food, they needed spiritual food more. THE CHURCH INITIATIVEI served as the Vice President of Resource Development. In this capacity I interviewed many of the greatest communicators in our generation. These included preachers (Dr. Richard Bewes, Dr. Jack Hayford, Dr. E.V. Hill), evangelists (Dr. Bill Bright, Dr. Luis Palau), and teachers (Kay Arthur, Anne Graham Lotz ), and authors (Dr. Larry Crabb, Joni Eareckson Tada). This job was a five year investigation of the nature of communication as I developed video series (GriefShare) and did a lot of curriculum writing. My last assignment was to write a 365 day devotional for people going through grief. Thomas Nelson has published this under the title Through A Season of Grief.Skills used included Innovation, Recruiting, Collaboration, Curriculum Development and Christ- centered theology.PROVIDENCE BAPTIST CHURCH - RALEIGH, NCI was one of about six pastors in a large dynamic fast-growing church. During this time, the attendance of adults in the morning services grew from 1600 to 2000.I served as Pastor of Small Groups, Prayer, New Member Assimilation and Pastoral Care. The need for counseling was draining many of our pastors. So, I set up a process. Pastors could counsel 2-3 times and then would pass the person on to a professional counselor if needed.I had a monthly lunch with Christian counselors in our area to get to know them. A list was made available to all our pastors. If the situation required intervention, we could refer them to RAPHA for inpatient care. We currently live in Houston, TX. I am hoping to get on staff at a great church.
