About Jacqueline Burnett-Brown, Phd, Lmft

Dr. Burnett-Brown served in the United States Navy for a four-year term during Desert Storm, then completed her service on a different sort of battlefield as an educator for 18 years, 16 public secondary education, and 10 years in post-secondary education. Dr. Burnett-Brown earned her PhD with research into the difficulties faced by teachers who felt the oppression of administration in regard to teaching through a social justice lens or even teaching accurate history. https://www.academia.edu/65183190/Racial_Dialogues_A_Phenomenological_Study_of_Difficult_Dialogues_from_the_Perspective_of_High_School_English_TeachersThroughout her years teaching, she has continued to work toward her long-term career goal of working with educational and corporate environments, as well as communities to forward the expansion of racial and cultural awareness. Due to her continued study and work to address racial and cultural disparity in our society, she recognizes that racism and discrimination cause not only divisiveness, but can lead to stress, anxiety, and depression in individuals who are the targets of microaggressions. To that end, she retired from education and completed post-doctoral work in marriage and family therapy and now specializes in bringing healing to families and individuals who struggle with racial, cultural, and gender-based discrimination and microaggressions in school, the workplace, and the larger community. In addition to her certifications as a GA educator, Dr. Burnett-Brown is a certified cultural diversity and inclusion professional and is registered as a Georgia Supreme Court-approved mediator in domestic, civil, and juvenile mediation and arbitration. Dr. Burnett-Brown is a member of The International Women in Leadership, The National Society of Leadership and Success, she is an AAMFT Clinical Fellow, and has been awarded a certificate in Higher Education by Harvard's Derek Bok Center for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Burnett-Brown served nine years as a faculty member of the University of Phoenix, Atlanta Campus where she taught Social Psychology, Cultural Diversity, EEOC and Culture, and the Psychology of Learning, Developmental Psychology. She also served five years at South College, Atlanta, where she taught General and Developmental Psychology. She currently serves as an academic coach to graduate students in education and counseling programs.
