I am currently a forensic scientist trainee for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department working in Controlled Substances.Before that I was a postdoctoral researcher on a joint project with Professors Curt Wittig and Hanna Reisler in the Department of Chemistry at USC. This project focuses on studying guest-host interactions of small molecules in amorphous solid water using pulsed laser ablation, time of flight mass spectrometry, FTIR and TPD.I received my BS in Chemistry from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2005. At UCSB, I began working for Prof. Alec Wodtke as an undergraduate investigating photodissociation of methyl azide with velocity map imaging. After completing my BS, I stayed with Prof. Wodtke as a graduate student working toward a PhD with a photofragment translational spectroscopy study of methyl azide. I later switched my project to building a new instrument for preparing size controlled nanoparticles for depositing on surfaces. In 2010, Prof. Wodtke left UCSB to head the Department of Dynamics at Surfaces at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany. I moved to Germany with him and completed my dissertation at Georg-August University in 2012.I have had experience in a wide variety of experimental techniques in the course of my PhD work including surface microscopy (mostly AFM, but also SEM and TEM), chemical vapor deposition growth of nanowires, time of flight mass spectrometry, quadrupole mass spectrometry, vacuum science techniques, velocity map imaging, photofragment translational spectroscopy, and a significant amount of instrument design and construction.
