Dr. Collins has served as superintendent for Zion Elementary School District 6 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. Effective June 30, 2018, Dr. Collins retired as Superintendent of Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116. Her early work experience as a Speech Pathologist in a rehabilitation center was followed by public school employment opportunities in Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Texas, Pennsylvania and Michigan. Dr. Collins has also been published in the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders.Superintendent Collins met the requirements for the principal and superintendent administrative certificates at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. While in the Grand Rapids area, Dr. Collins was employed as a Special Education Supervisor, Director, Elementary Principal, and Area Superintendent.Over the last decade Dr. Collins’ work has been recognized through several awards, recognitions and presentations: Phi Delta Kappa Recognition of Extraordinary Dedication and Commitment to Education; National Council on Educating Black Children Educator of the Year; Cognitive Concepts, Inc. Excellence in Education; Oak Park Villager of the Year Honorable Mention; Alpha Kappa Alpha Distinguished Women of Power; National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) Phenomenal Woman; NABSE Co-Superintendent of the Year; and American Association of School Administrators Dr. Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award. Superintendent Collins is a regular presenter for NABSE and is a Co-Founder/Director for Harrison-Williams Collins (HWC) Aspiring Superintendents Leadership Institute.
