About Daniel Howard

A seasoned AI professional, capability leader, technical manager, hands-on programmer, SME director, and pioneer.https://www.ieeesmc.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/SMC23-Highlights.pdf https://www.ieeesmc.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/SMC2023Announcements.pdfFrom 1996, I introduced to my employer, pioneered. built and hands-on led an AI research and applied research capability at the then UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency, the largely classified legendary Ministry of Defence agency of the United Kingdom where I rose to the grade of Fellow (100 fellows out of 13,000 scientific and technical research staff) where I worked for more than 12 years. My work there was interdisciplinary spanning many topics (for example deploying an early (1998-2000) production AI machine vision system that my group created from scratch for the military RECCE, or an AI incident detection system for the UK Highways, or an algorithm to detect genes in genomes, or working on mammography AI taxonomy with the foremost world expert in breast cancer screening (Laszlo Tabar MD, Falun, Sweden 2000-2002). In 2009 I left and created an AI company to this day currently engaged principally in explainable AI work and other diverse AI research projects. By my own initiative and international reputation I was uniquely invited all expenses by the South Korean government (Brain 21) to lead a number of international conferences and events exploring convergence and hybrid technologies from 2006-2012 at least once a year - I know the S. Korea scene well. I get involved in leading edge projects in AI and applied computation and engineering for example two mayor projects in self-supervised learning and cybertechnology 2023-2024 for the UK government. EARLIER: I was a Rolls Royce Research Fellow in Computational Fluid Dynamics at University of Oxford and Pembroke College Oxford (present SCR member) and then coded myself recruited team to help me, creating a Computer Aided Engineering software capability for a large oil company contractor in London. There pioneered and gained much experience in knowledge engineering and IT besides my computer programming skills (my PhD in Finite Elements was old school, writing software in FORTRAN involving millions of lines of code). Today for my bespoke AI, I mainly work in C++ and web based SaaS interfaces. Over the years I have been invited to numerous leading international conferences as plenary speaker and to elite workshops and venues. Appointed Honorary International Chair Professor in Molecular Engineering at NTUT in Taiwan in 2012.

Listed skills include System Architecture, Technical Management, Engineering Management, Technology Development, and 46 others.
