Consistently (for some 15 years) I help to evaluate Horizon/framework research proposals from European SMEs, R&D institutes and universities.

1996-2001 Dera

Led and grew an Artificial Intelligence capability (Machine Learning and Machine Vision) which I started in Dec. 1996 very much in a hands on way. We R&D the AI (Genetic Programming) publishing 100+ papers on early advances, then we developed/programming and took practical products from our own R&D all the way to operation in areas as diverse as defence research, machine vision, traffic modelling, robotics, biomedicine, commercial data mining, healthcare and biology. In 2002 the company acknowledged my contributions by electing me one of 100 Company Fellows out of the 14,000 scientific and engineering research staff, with direct access to the CEO of QinetiQ.I joined in 1996. From 1996-2001 QinetiQ was the then UK MOD scientific government agency of 14,000 employees called the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (the legendary RSRE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Signals_and_Radar_Establishment) privatized as QinetiQ in 2001-2 and the United Kingdom's largest science and technology organisation.

Gained significant experience in IT technology by computerizing the entire computational aided engineering capability of this company. At times teams of 250 engineers from five engineering design disciplines used my creations that relied on leading edge software environments and databases to concurrently work to design North Sea oil platforms for clients such as Shell and BP. Obtained buy in from users in different ways eliciting knowledge to improve upon their work effectiveness. Much of this software helped better understand the impact in work and time of changes and helped to determine safe thresholds in the team design effort of engineers working together on one design.
