826DC is an award-winning youth writing and publishing center that has operated in the District of Columbia since 2008.Magic Makers at 826DC believe that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that all youth deserve the opportunity to widely share their stores through writing. Inspired school-aged students to write confidently and skillfully with the help of adult volunteers in their communities, in partnership with 826michigan staff, interns, volunteers, educators, and families.Managed off-site writing and tutoring programs in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, ultimately to uphold a culture of creativity and imagination and support students in establishing strong habits of mind.Through publication and community engagement, provided over a thousand students with an authentic and enthusiastic audience for their writing.

• Assisted in documentation and portfolio review during NAEYC re-accreditation. Receiving a 97% rating.• Assisted center in receiving a 100% rating on 9 out of 10 NAEYC standards.• Assisted in planning and execution of the 2011 and 2012 Preschool Graduation.• Assisted Better Together Committee in addressing center needs, recognizing staff members for performance and contribution to positive staff moral; planed center events and provided literature that promoted self-discovery, self-improvement, team building techniques, etc.• Presented and provided opportunities for faculty to consistently implement diversity in their room arrangements, lesson planning - ensuring all cultures were represented and appreciated in the workplace.

• Completed secretarial duties during absence of the Towsley Children's House Administration Assistant.• During absence of Lead and Associate teachers - ensured learning opportunities were optimized, lesson plans were followed, and classroom dynamics remained consistent.• Assisted in transitioning new families into center by providing one-on-one time with children -alleviating anxiety and inciting the children to become comfortable socializing with other children and staff members.Towsley Children's House provides a safe, secure, warm, and welcoming environment for children from 3 months to 5 years of age.In all classes, the curriculum is designed to nurture social behavior and enhance the child's self-concept. The developmentally appropriate program includes a balance of child- and teacher-initiated activities built into a well-defined daily routine. The play-based curriculum is designed by teams of professional teachers in a manner that is ever evolving and adapting to meet the needs and interests of the children. Attention is given to social, cognitive, and physical development. Children of all ages enjoy large and small group activities including music, art, cooking, science projects, and enriching field trips.Parent-teacher communication, both spontaneous and planned, is recognized as being essential for the overall success of our program.
