826michigan inspires school-aged students to write with skill and confidence in collaboration with adult volunteers in their communities.
Our writing and tutoring programs uphold a culture of creativity and imagination and support students in establishing strong habits of mind. Through publication and community engagement, we provide students with an authentic and enthusiastic audience for their writing.
Our programs provide an energizing creative outlet for students and meaningful volunteer opportunities for community members. We believe that with one-on-one attention from caring adults, students improve their academic performance, develop a sense of belonging, and discover the unique value of their voices.

826michigan Programs:
*Drop-In Tutoring: Offered throughout the school year, Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5:30 PM in Ann Arbor, 4-6 PM in Detroit, and 6-8PM in Ypsilanti. Students drop-in to work on homework for any and all subjects.
*In-schools: Every single day of the week, our staff and volunteers are working in area classrooms in Ypsilanti, Detroit, and Ann Arbor, helping support the writing teachers are doing with their students.
*Drop-in Writing: is a perfect way to hone skills and do creative work outside the school setting. We welcome all students to 826michigan’s Drop-in Writing at our headquarters in Ann Arbor and libraries in Ypsilanti and Detroit.
*Field trips: Classrooms visit us for a fun and creative approach to writing, both independently and in groups. And at the end, each student departs with a professionally bound copy of the book he or she created.
*Publishing: We are committed to making sure that our students have an outlet for the wonderful material they produce. To this end, we help them publish and distribute their work, be it in their own zine, in a specially produced book, or in another format.
All 826michigan programs are offered free of charge to our students and participating teachers.
