About Elkie Burnside
I provide a unique blend of interdisciplinary skill sets bridging professional/industry experience with academic training and research. In addition to content development and curriculum/standards alignment, I also specialize in assessment – standard/competency-based, as well as cognitive and holistic application. My instructional experience: 1) ranges across all levels (including elementary, secondary, collegiate, and professional training classrooms), 2) incorporates best practices from a variety of teaching approaches (face-to-face, hybrid (both online and f2f), and fully online), and 3) implements an individual, student focused approach (seeking to connect students with their interests and needs in all teaching environments). I am interested in understanding how instruction can strengthen professional practice by drawing on:a) multimodal composing (communicating with more than alphabetic text); b) understanding of communication in professional, academic, and social/cultural settings; and c) working to incorporate instructional technology and use of digital tools/environments in meaningful, ethical, and practical ways. I also specialize incorporating accessibility practices into all documents, classrooms, and information delivery methods I use in my career. Understanding this set of practices as an ongoing, evolving mindset which considers the physical, technological, and social needs of participants is the core of my professional practice.
Listed skills include Instructional Design, Higher Education, Editing, Curriculum Design, and 46 others.
