I was lucky enough to be able to spend the summer after graduating from Furman University as a whitewater raft guide on the Nolichucky River in Erwin, Tennessee! Being a guide has always been a dream of mine, and I thoroughly enjoyed such a riveting leadership experience! Some of my responsibilities this summer included:-Conducting safety briefings and demonstrations to educate guests on proper rafting techniques and emergency procedures.-Guiding rafts through challenging rapids while maintaining control and stability.-Responding quickly and effectively to emergencies and unexpected situations on the water.-Providing excellent customer service and creating a fun, memorable experience for guests of all ages and skill levels.-Inspecting and maintaining rafting equipment to ensure it meets safety standards.-Collaborating with other guides and staff to coordinate trips and enhance the overall guest experience.-Sharing knowledge of local wildlife, geology, and history to enrich the rafting experience.This role drastically improved my skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
