Troubleshot and solved problems with camp reservations, solved minor disputes that did not warrant calling LE Rangers, completed and submitted Record of Collections (DPR 197) for two campgrounds/day use areas, kept kiosks adequately supplied, kept campground wood sheds adequately supplied for camphosts, collected, verified and turned in firewood money to Redwood Parks Association partners operating the park Visitor Center, inventory firewood supplies, assisted LE Rangers with lost hiker searches when needed, and of general assistance to LE Rangers in the park. In addition, created and collaberated with NPS and Redwood Parks Association in planning a 150th Anniversary park event "Run In The Redwoods 1/2 Marathon & 5k Run".

Richardson Grove State Park & Patrick'S Point State Park

Visitor services for reservation camping and day use. Daily completion of DPR 156 accountability form and shift deposit drop. Enthusiastically greet visitors, give hiking advice to park visitors as well as explaining park rules and regulations. Assist LE Rangers when necessary, usually by contacting through BK radio. After campground visitor service position ended joined a vegetation management crew at Patrick's Point State Park. As part of a crew and following the directions of the supervisor, removed invasive species from coastal and dune habitat at Trinidad State Beach, Humboldt Lagoons State Park and Tolowa Dunes State Park. Using a shovel or pulaski, removed invasive beachgrass and ice plant.

Collected botanical data for comparative research on decommissioned logging roads. Used GPS to find coordinates for vegetation sampling, measured plots and identified vegetation within. Used a variety of tools for data collection including: densitometer, compass, digital camera, and GPS unit. Capstone research project and Power point presentation of comparative research findings presented at Humboldt State University. Conducted literature review and prepared reports on redwood forest restoration activities. Lab work analyzing tree-core samples from Alaska on forest disturbance history (wildfire and insect outbreaks) and reconstruction of climate chronologies. Prepare and sand tree core samples, count and measure annual tree rings using a binocular scope and digital scanning system, tabulate information into Excel spreadsheets, conduct graphical and basic statistical analyses.
