As a CDC, I was responsible for going into the community to schedule Girl Scouts programming in schools, area organizations and after-school programs. I successfully rebuilt relationships that had been strained due to past mistrusts and disrespect on behalf of former employees.I also exceeded my expected goal for girl participation each year despite annual increases and staff shrinkage.I facilitated programs to girls ages 5-16, hired and trained new employees and supervised a staff of 6.

A difficult task for some, I formed a friend/mentor relationship with the fifth and sixth graders in the afterschool program. Students trusted me with secrets and felt comfortable coming to talk to when they needed someone to listen without judgement and give sound advice.On field trips, the youth always wanted to be in my groups because they knew we would have a great time and stay safe.Both the students and other staff turned to me for homework help when it was needed.

As a content editor, I fact checked stories and used Associated Press and local style preferences to edit content.When national news was relevant to our readers, I made the call to run stories from the Associated Press and Gannett News Service. I used my design skills to layout eye-catching front pages and sections fronts, while efficiently editing proofs for layout oversights and typos. Once the paper was sent to print, I uploaded the stories to the newsṕaper's Web site in a timely and accurate manner. Using my personable attitude, I communicated with all staff including news editors, photographers, press workers and other copy editors to make sure we produced a quality product.

Following my internship here, I was offered and accepted a full-time staff position. I quickly learned how to report all area news - including politics, sports, community events and crime. When covering those events, I also took photographs for use in print and on the Web site. After writing stories, I helped design pages and edit proofs. I was also responsible for uploading stories and photographs to the newspaper's Web site and kept Web content accurate and timely.
