As a workplace English teacher, I help employees improve their ability to communicate more effectively in English using work-specific language. During our onsite training classes, employees gain skills and confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing--and helps build rapport with other employees in the company and increase productivity.

The AEL program helps people who are not enrolled in high school achieve career/college readiness. As the Manager, I provide leadership, administrative and operational support to ensure delivery of five Adult Education programs. This role includes strategic planning, program development, oversight, budget development and execution, data analysis and reporting, grant writing, management, staff oversight, and measurement. I work to ensure compliance with federal and local requirements related to the Workforce Opportunity and Innovation Act, Title II: Adult Education, while working within the policies and guidelines of the Arlington Independent School District.

The Academic Foundations department at the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus encompasses English for Speakers of Other Languages, Transition to College, Integrated Reading and Writing, and the Reading/Writing/ESOL Resource Center. I am excited for the opportunity to help facilitate the long-term and short-term growth of this department, and to serve as an advocate, collaborator, mentor, and leader for the amazing faculty, staff, and student assistants in these areas. In our joint role to provide a solid academic foundation for new-to-college students, we have a tremendous impact on the first year experience, student retention, and on-going student success. For many students, we are the face of TCC. As such, it is critical that we serve our College and our students with the best curriculum, best processes, best ideas, best people.

As an Associate Professor of Reading at TCC Southeast, I am responsible for carrying out the following tasks:Assist students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate College resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available to complement the teaching and learning process. Accommodate diverse student needs, demonstrate a sensitivity toward and respect for the myriad of diversities represented in the student population, colleagues and service area. Aid in the development of curricula, including each individual course syllabus. Prepare and deliver instruction to students. Design and maintain an active classroom environment conducive to student learning and success. Assist in District commitment to assessing student learning outcomes and program learning outcomes and to achieving institutional performance measures. Accept and participate in the service mission of the college.

First Achieving the Dream (AtD) Coordinator at the Tarrant County College Southeast campus, serving 12,000 students and 400+ staff and faculty. In this role, I work directly with the campus president, district AtD Director, other campus AtD Coordinators, and key college administrators, departments and staff the purpose of promoting student success and retention. I oversee the work of the five AtD intervention teams and campus data team. Our focus is on student completion and persistence, and significant effort is directed at promoting data-informed decision making throughout the campus. In addition, I serve as a key communication liaison between the campus and district. In 2013, Tarrant County College earned recognition as Leader College for Achieving the Dream.

As an adjunct faculty member, I was responsible for carrying out the following tasks:Preparing and delivering instruction in both graduate and undergraduate education courses, for students seeking an education degree or studying to take their state teaching exam. Designing and maintaining an engaging, yet challenging, classroom environment conducive to student learning and success. During this time, I also served as a post-baccalaureate supervisor for UTA students who were active teachers of record in Texas. In this role, I evaluated and instructed over 25 students, in the public and private sectors. Several times throughout the year, I drove to their schools (within a 60 mile radius from Arlington, Texas) to observe and evaluate their teaching and classroom management. Serving in this role allowed these students to partially fulfill requirements for earning a Texas teaching certificate.
