In 2010 the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Construction Innovation transformed into the industry-funded Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc), headquartered at Curtin University.The vision for the SBEnrc is to be a world-class research and knowledge broker in sustainable infrastructure and building design, construction and management to enhance the performance of the built environment industry. This Centre builds on the history of achievement of CRC for Construction Innovation and leverages its national achievements into a stronger international applied research organisation.

The WA Port Operations Task Force is an industry consultative body to provide a forum for identification, discussion and resolution of port-related issues.

Executive responsibility for crafting a blend of commercial and public-good outcomes on behalf of 28 industry, government and research partners nationally.The Australian Government’s A$16 million commitment over nine years was the largest single investment in construction R&D in Australia’s history, complementing industry partners’ A$60 million commitment. The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Construction Innovation comprised 400 people across Australia with key international links and fundamentally changed the way Australia’s building and construction industry operates. The Centre brought together a diverse and powerful group of industry, government and research partners across Australia and internationally, integrating efforts of leading global research groups throughout Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

From 1997 served as CSIRO Associate Professor in Construction Management, with leadership responsibilities for the Construction Research Alliance in Process Reengineering. Facilitated formal agreement on this first national research alliance in 1998 following four years of collaboration with CSIRO Building, Construction and Engineering. Between 1998 and 2001, the Construction Research Alliance was successful in securing funded industry research projects valued in excess of A$1.4M and developing key national and international research collaborations.Led the National Museum of Australia (NMA) Research Project (1998-2000), Canberra. Team developed world-first measures and data collection processes for qualitative assessment of the value of project alliances and collaborative ICT to improve supply chain in designing and constructing the museum in Australia's national capital.

Joined the School of Construction Management and Property in 1989 following a period of part-time lecturing in the School of Civil Engineering. As Course Coordinator of the Master of Project Management program (1994-97) led responsibility for refocusing the curriculum to ensure stronger industry and international relevance. The postgraduate programs delivered in Australia and internationally prospered under my leadership – from quality, growth and financial perspectives. Led the development of a series of technology management case studies that formed the basis of nationally acclaimed teaching packages for project managers during 1995-98, strengthening the link and mutual respect between academics and business leaders.

Consulting Engineer/Project Manager specialising in civil and local government engineering, property development and project management.Undertook further training and experience with large London-based integrated consultancy, Atkins (one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies) as part of the award of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Overseas Scholarship. As member of the multi-disciplinary and multi-national team acting as the 'maitre d'oeuvre' for the English Channel Tunnel Project, served as reviewer of contractors' design proposals for UK and French terminal layouts, prior to moving onsite as a member of the client's site management team, overseeing construction operations at Shakespeare Cliff near Dover.
