About Lorenzo Melchor

I work at the science, policy and diplomacy interface bringing all worlds together. For the last decade, I have conceived and delivered country analyses and knowledge exchange projects to strengthen science-for-policy ecosystems at all global, European and national levels. I have trained scientists, policymakers and diplomats to build mutual trust and make sure science is on top of everyone’s agenda.Passionate about knowledge, science and technology, I would like them to have bigger impact in society and public policies. I currently work as a senior adviser at the National Office for Science Advice (ONAC) at the Prime Minister Office in Spain, helping to strengthen the Spanish science-for-policy ecosystem. Before, I worked as policy analyst at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) for three years supporting Member States to improve their organisations and processes for science advice. Before, I have been EU science advice and diplomacy officer at the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) involved in the Horizon 2020 science diplomacy project S4D4C (2019-2021). I have also worked as FECYT science coordinator at the Spanish Embassy in London (2015-2018). Previously, I have been a cancer researcher with a productive international academic career and expertise in genomics and molecular pathology of human cancers.As an active science advocate, I am the Founding President of the Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom, a scientific fellow of Fundacion Gadea Ciencia, and a founding member of the Asociación Española para el Avance de la Ciencia (AEAC). I have also contributed to Ciencia en el Parlamento as Head of Research and International Affairs (2018-2021). Due to my professional expertise, I was appointed as expert in science advice system within the expert network #Los100deCotec.
