Application of significant subject-matter expertise helps to protect and enhance the integrity and reputation of the USGS, the Department and its employees. The role supports more than 10,000 scientists, technicians, and non-science staff in more than 400 locations across the United States.In this role, acts as a Department subject-matter expert on an extensive range of research misconduct and other sensitive integrity issues as well as serving as an expert consultant on similar topics for the Departmental Scientific Integrity Officer. Supports the Department’s Bureaus in developing scientific integrity guidance and operating procedures designed to ensure all research misconduct advice provided throughout the Department meets all statutory and regulatory requirements of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Department, and the unique needs of USGS employees.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) included $30 billion for the Department of Interior's initiatives, including for combatting legacy pollution, restoring critical habitats, addressing the drought crisis, assisting with wildland fire management, and helping communities prepare for extreme weather events.During a long-term detail as the Senior Advisor for Statistics and Evidence with the Department of Interior in the Office of Policy Analysis, supported the Department’s Statistical Official — who is the Director of the Office of Policy Analysis — with high-level coordination and direction implementing the Foundations of evidence-based Policymaking Act (Evidence Act). The focus was on supporting statistics and evidence capacity-building across the 40 BIL programs led by the Department of the Interior and its bureaus and offices, and contributing to an emerging statistics and evidence community of practice and supporting the Statistical Official in advising Department, bureau, and program leadership on the use of evidence for learning.

The Formosan subterranean termite (Coptotermes formosanus, Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) is the most economically important insect pest in the state of Hawaii. Costs to residents of the State to control and repair termite damages have been estimated to exceed $100 million annually. The UH Termite project: Educate to Eradicate, a statewide program intended to suppress termites through research and education, was federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Services. As a Research Assistant in the Entomology Program, the project aim was to determine the response of subterranean termites to various insecticides. The project included collaborations with other academics and multinational industry partners, and had frequent opportunities for science communication with funding partners and the public.

The role also included teaching the entomology Summer Institute class at the insect museum, including experiments and a two-week lesson plan, for Year 10 students who are Native Hawaiian and interested in the natural sciences; and, a natural sciences fieldwork trip for high school students on Kahoʻolawe.Na Pua No`eau was established at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo in 1989 for the purpose of increasing educational enrichment opportunities for Hawaiian children in kindergarten through 12th grade. Outreach centers were later established on the islands of Maui, Kaua'i, O'ahu and Moloka'i, Lana'i and the West side of the Island of Hawai‘i to expand activities throughout the State of Hawai'i.
