  • The University Of Western Australia
Subject Matter Expert (Eccentric Exercise), Supervisor & Research Designer
The University Of Western Australia Jan 2019 - Sep 2020
    Perth, Western Australia, Australia
I have been included as an expert consultant in a clinical trial that is investigating the differences in training effects between eccentric and concentric cycling on chronic heart failure patients. My primary responsibility has been the preparation, design and delivery of the eccentric and concentric cycling training programs for and with the patients. I have pilot-tested several protocols, carefully prepared the eccentric cycling ergometer, as well as thoroughly analysed its weaknesses and strengths. Thus, I was able to adjust the ergometer and the training design to the needs of the particular clinical population of chronic heart failure patients, while ensuring that the training is challenging, rewarding and fun. I am also involved in training and preparing under- and postgraduate students in the delivery of the eccentric and concentric cycling training programs. Furthermore, I have been involved in the design and execution of the muscle function and performance testing protocols that mostly consist of dynamic assessments of dynamic strength via isokinetic dynamometry. The project is ongoing, and we are aiming to recruit and train 50 participants for each training modality for 4 months.

  • Edith Cowan University
    Ph.D. Candidate In Exercise Science
Edith Cowan University Mar 2014 - Mar 2018
    Perth, Australia
I have finished my PhD research on the "Acute and chronic effects of interval eccentric cycling". Eccentric cycling is an eccentric exercise modality that can be designed primarily at very low to medium intensities and is performed with a high volume of eccentric contractions. These are the same muscle actions that you need to lower weights, run downhill, walk downstairs or change direction in any sports. Previous research has successfully showcased the potential of eccentric cycling for increases in strength, power and functional mobility. Interval eccentric cycling as an alternative exercise modality has the potential to lead improvements in endurance and strength at the same time. During the last three years I have conducted, supervised and executed three studies, including an eight-week intervention study, to better understand the acute and chronic effects of interval eccentric cycling. The results will be published soon in scientific journals and in my thesis.
