In my current role, I connect groups, corporations, college students, and general volunteers to 826 Valencia's tutoring volunteer opportunities. I manage relationships with contacts from large local tech companies like Twitter, Salesforce, and Dolby, to university professors who bring their students to tutor with us. I train new volunteers with a warm and friendly manner while also ensuring student safety and support by ensuring important information is communicated, and by tracking important documentation in our Salesforce CRM software.Major Highlights:- Advocated for the creation of the first ever Accessibility and Neurodiversity Committee at 826, and serve as its first lead- Manage relationships with everyone from major tech companies to other nonprofits with warmth and grace- In my second year of service of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force, I continue to support 826 Valencia's priorities of justice in education, both internally among our staff and externally with the students we work with- Oversaw engagement growth when I took over running our newsletter to general volunteers, applying new and innovative strategies to engage a higher percentage of the over 6000 recipients of our MailChimp managed newsletter

During my AmeriCorps year, I was tasked with being a warm first contact for hundreds of new volunteers throughout the year, first managing email communications with them, then finding a time to train them, and then leading in person trainings going over topics like how to tutor and 826's anti-racist tutoring lens.Some highlights:- Developed a warm, compelling and organized presentation style focused on supporting people first- Served on 826's Open Meetings Initiative, focused on supporting equitable and safe meetings at 826- Succinctly and compellingly pitched for and recruited volunteers in various in person and online recruitment settings, including at Google and AirBnB's campuses- Supported 826's transition from an all in-person tutor orientation framework to an all online tutor orientation framework due to the pandemic- Successfully advocated internally for pay increases and better treatment for our employees that directly interface with our students the most

After graduating college, I transitioned to working full time for the the Department of Emergency Management at the University. I promoted community resiliency on our campus by leading the Business Continuity program on campus, curating emergency preparedness messaging for Cal Poly students, staff, and faculty, and coordinating three different volunteer teams on campus totaling over a hundred campus staff and faculty members.Major Highlights:- Worked across campus subsectors to help identify members of the campus's Emergency Response Team, and subsequently to help train them in emergency response skills.- Managed the Department's social media accounts and collaborated- Honed my presentational skills by presenting to hundreds of students and staff about emergency management over my time at Cal Poly

As the Department of Emergency Management's student employee, I developed a passion for community service and safety, strong presentation and writing skills, and a desire to continue to serve people no matter what opportunities were presented.

Working with KCPR was one of my great extra curricular joys during college. I got to flex my creative muscles curating an hour long news program two to three times a week, and, occasionally, I'd get out in the field to find some of my own interviews and stories. My favorite interview? Interviewing local San Luis Obispo band Box the Oxford about their new album.

After attending Sonshine every summer in high school and spending two summers volunteering there, in my third year I transitioned to a full time role training and mentoring one of the volunteer teams consisting of 24 college aged volunteers. I made sure they were ready for their roles before their sessions and provided support during the time they volunteered with us.

I was the camp's main representative and liaison to various groups of mixed adults and students that came to the camp, and I served them by maintaining the houseboat they stayed on, scheduling ski boat runs, maintaining a safe and fun environment, and serving as a friendly and warm point of contact for all attendees of Sonshine's summer camp programs.It was an honor to be able to give back to the next generation of students who attended by giving students and staff a joyful and seamless experience by coordinating logistics for their houseboating adventure.
