• Main contributor of the Intent Detection System (IDS) which replaces manual barcode scanning by ML in Amazon Fulfillment Centers globally. The IDS system reduces human labor cost by 20% (~$350 MM per year). It is deployed to > 15,000 stations and processes > 10 TB of video data per day.• Lead the project to expand and customize the IDS system to all new Amazon Delivery Centers, including AWS cloud and edge infrastructure components, ML systems, and frontend React web apps.• Investigated and implemented the ML models for IDS. Developed highly scalable infrastructures for collecting training data, evaluating model performance and hosting models for inferencing. The IDS ML fleet is one of the largest ML fleets in AWS (refer to the linked case study).• Reduced the ML model inferencing cost by 60% (~$1.5 MM per year) by optimizing GPU usage, autoscaling and migrating to AWS’s new in-house GPU chips.

• Developed the company’s SaaS product Land Explorer as lead developer from the ground up. It allows users to access, query and customize large-scale bioinformatics data and analysis with various interactive visualizations. It enhanced company’s competencies in a new area as a first prototype and increased user engagement. It is highlighted as company’s most important strategic product in the roadmap. • Developed automated pipelines and analyzed large-scale dataset (>100k samples) to identify key gene features in cancer patients with statistical models. • Built, processed and maintained about 18 data service products as primary owner. Delivered all of them to AWS quarterly. • Maintained and implemented new features for company’s software products, especially the server services functionalities and the interactive visualizations.
