Worked with colleagues to help increase our understanding of the marine environment and the UK’s natural capital, as well as identifying opportunities to deliver environmental value. Key work areas included: 1) Increasing our level of engagement with academia (e.g., by supporting Centre for Doctoral Training programmes); 2) Building partnerships with research organisations and environmental stakeholders to support our progress to net zero whilst also addressing the biodiversity crisis;3) Working with colleagues across The Crown Estate and with external organisations to identify opportunities for environmental enhancement projects.

As part of Work Package 7 (Policy Integration) my main responsibility is to produce the science-policy report for the EU-funded project ATLAS. The report will summarize the policy-relevant results from each of the nine work packages and document how ATLAS has informed policy developments at the national, regional and global scale. Supervisor: Dr. Cindy L Van Dover My dissertation focused on the functioning and ecosystem services associated with deep-sea hydrothermal vents and methane seeps, including supporting services, provisioning services and cultural services. I prepared a technical study for the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) that reviewed how protected areas are downsized, downgraded and/or degazetted (PADDD). The report was used as background information to a CBD expert workshop in December 2017 and February 2020. I also contributed to a manuscript reviewing the CBD's process of describing and identifying Ecologically or Biologically Significant Marine Areas (EBSAs), published in 2018.

I was part of the EU-funded project ACCESS (Arctic Climate Change, Economy and Society), Work Package 5 (Governance, Sustainable Development and Synthesis). I reviewed the availability and utility of indicators for sustainable governance. I also helped to facilitate a stakeholder meeting between ACCESS and Arctic Indigenous Peoples (8th-10th July 2014).
