Recently, He worked on an Industrial IOT research project at the Centre for Advanced Sustainable Energy in Northern Ireland was funded by Invest Northern Ireland.He developed an automated control system and strategies to allow drying operation on the minimum electricity utilisation and optimising cost of re-treatment, transportation, handling, and storage in the UK. His control systems have sensing technology that detected the temperature, pressure, humidity, and air velocity at different locations of the site and recorded data on his developed Java-based graphical user interface (GUI).

Dr Ian Watson leading research for "real-time control of gasifiers to increase tolerance to biomass variety and reduce emissions" were funded by EPSRC and Supergen Bioenergy Hub with the collaboration of UK's Universities (Aston, Manchester and Aberystwyth) and UK's Industries (Uniper, Downhole Energy).Designed and commission the gasifier test rig for testing robust and inexpensive instrumentation and control system.Designed and developed a Gasifier Control Unit (GCU) to optimise the biomass gasification process with minimum tar formations at various biomass feedstock’s.Optimised the performance of the gasifier for different biomass and treatment options.Managed and provided training for four research staff and three undergraduate students.
