I am an applied linguist serving as Faculty Writing Coach at the University of Oklahoma’s Center for Faculty Excellence, supporting scholars across disciplines in developing, communicating and disseminating their ideas. Additionally, I took on the role of co-Editor-in-Chief for the Oxford University Press journal “Applied Linguistics” in 2023, with shared oversight of the flagship publication in my field. My own scholarly work applies technology (e.g. corpus linguistics, AI) to study patterns and design enhanced academic language learning frameworks, while also pioneering targeted writing support initiatives that have assisted thousands of multilingual students/professors in publishing impactful research. Since 2015, I have been instrumental in setting up academic publishing centers at over ten universities, notably founding the Academic Publishing Advisory Center (CAPA) in Brazil, the first of its kind in South America. Through CAPA and other initiatives, I have supported over 2,000 researchers in publishing their work in prestigious journals and books. As an English Language Specialist for the U.S. State Department, I continue leading specialized courses on academic writing best practices internationally. With decades of experience directing innovative language centers and writing programs benefiting diverse global learners, I remain deeply invested in advancing pedagogical research, training educators, and guiding institutions/policy in the development of English proficiency worldwide. I cherish the opportunity to engage with faculty about their research, guiding them in effectively communicating their insights to the global academic community—a responsibility and honor I hold dear.

FounderAcademic English Specialists, Llc Sep 2022 - May 2023Academic English Specialists (AES) is made up of scholars with different areas of expertise, but who share the experience of being in roles to support efforts among universities worldwide to engage with the global academic community. Most members of AES have been invited by the U.S. Department of State, under its English Language Programs, to work on projects as Specialists and Fellows. Although these projects focus on different aspects of what is referred to as “internationalization,” they are all actually interrelated. Universities worldwide do not need “only” help in writing for publication, or “only” training for faculty that need to teach through English, or “only” support for Academic English curriculum development, for example. They need sustainable solutions that address their efforts to internationalize, but ones that act in harmony with each other, and in concert with the institution. We are here to help provide those kinds of solutions for both individual scholars and entire universities. As lifelong educators in English for Academic Purposes, it is what we have done for many years, but not necessarily together. Now, with AES, we share a space where we can be reached by all. By you. We look forward to meeting you soon. -
