In this role, I am involved several different projects:- Clinical research: I function as a clinical trial coordinator for trial looking at a plant-based diet as an intervention for type 2 diabetes.- Writing: I am a contributor to the Breaking Medical News page on the pcrm.org website, and write op-eds and letters to the editor in response to nutrition stories.- Editing: I am an editor for the Nutrition Guide for Clinicians which you can download from the app store (https://nutritionguide.pcrm.org/nutritionguide).- Public speaking: I give guest lectures to medical students and speak at various vegan and CME events.

This role involves clinical research (particularly on soy and type 2 diabetes), content creation for social media, lecturing, amongst other responsibilities, all aimed at promoting a plant-based diet for optimal health.

As a member of the Board of Directors, I am responsible for content creation, strategic collaborations and presenting at webinars.

SALMA is an association of medical professionals who aim to establish and expand the practice of lifestyle medicine in South Africa. This will be accomplished through educational opportunities, facilitation of lifestyle medicine certification, newsletters, peer-reviewed articles, links to lifestyle medicine resources and personal interaction and support.

TecEx Medical assists Sponsors, CROs and Vendors by offering Importer of Record services. TecEx takes on the risk of importing goods for clinical trials and assists with customs compliance, to offer a full turnkey solution to their clients, into over 100 destinations around the world. My role involved building and maintaining successful relationships with clients, understanding their pain points, and assisting them to expand their clinical trials and business globally.

My Com Serve was based at a district level hospital, and involved me rotating amongst outpatient clinics, medical wards, the emergency department and maternity wards. During this year I was exposed to and challenged by the administrative challenges and resource limitations that face the broader population of South Africa while working at a district hospital in a rural area. As a result, I developed grit and resilience, and learned how to be innovative with the limited resources at my disposal.

During this internship at the largest hospital in the Southern Hemisphere, I learned how to deal with high volumes of patients and consequently developed good time management skills, prioritization and the ability to work under pressure. I rotated through various departments, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Family Medicine.
