Ryan is an active science communicator working at the forefront of healthcare technology research in the UK.As a Communities Engagement Manager, he is developing the stakeholder involvement strategy for the £5.7 million Raman Nanotheranostics (RaNT) cancer research programme at the University of Exeter.Ryan works with people that have experience of living with cancer, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals. He incorporates their vast and varied experiences of the UK’s cancer care pathway into the design and implementation of the evolving RaNT clinical technique.He also engages with members of the public who might have no experience of a cancer diagnosis. Their perspectives as the potential patients of tomorrow, will play an important role in the successful roll-out of this ground-breaking clinical procedure.Ryan is passionate about making current research accessible to non-scientists and he believes that end-user communities should have a say in how that research is developed. This kind of co-creation will deliver the most relevant, impactful advances in science and technology.With a PhD in biomedical physics, Ryan thrives in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. His current SciComms role is building on almost 5 years' experience as a volunteer Science Outreach Officer, helping deliver the University of Exeter's widening participation programme.
