About Saw Nwe
Dr Nwe is a medical doctor and a service design specialist. Saw has frontline experience delivering health services in acute and emergency, community and mental health hospitals. She has experience of the regulatory requirements in which health providers operate, and the internal and external challenges health systems face, particularly in relation to working in complex health and care systems. She has a Masters in Healthcare and Design at Imperial College and Royal College of Art. During this she worked in interdisciplinary teams of healthcare professionals, researchers and designers in applying design-led human-centred approaches to solve complex healthcare challenges. She has done extensive research in how parents access mental health services which formed the basis of her health-tech startup Aloe Health. - Work on forensic rehabilitation mental health ward. Responsible for patients’ mental and physical health needs and leading medical emergencies.- Led an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in a community mental health setting. Led the resuscitation of the patient coordinating staff to call for help and to take positions for a good quality resuscitation. -Work with some of the most marginalised communities with highly complex needs- able to overcome challenges and tailor consultations to the audience through active listening and empathy.- Chair 2-3 hour weekly multidisciplinary meetings to discuss patients and update care plans. Real-time decisions on patient care are made through team collaboration and leadership.- Implemented “Move Together” initiative. A weekly exercise class for both staff and patients to improve wellbeing. This has been a successful initiative which has had positive verbal feedback and retained the number of 7-8 participants every week. This collective experience has also improved staff-patient therapeutic relationship by reducing the barrier to staff seen as “authority figures”. - Delivered a talk during family and carers evening to educate families about mental health.
