Throughout my medical career, I have learned that the best patient outcomes are achieved when an individual is equipped with the knowledge to take responsibility for their own health and health care. I have strived to develop a model of care that supports this ethos and have enacted it in clinical practice. In addition to being a busy clinical practice, my Coffs Harbour rooms - Coffs Endocrine and Diabetes Service -operate as an acclaimed and sought after trial facility. I am held in high regard internationally for my continued contribution to pharmaceutical trials and clinical studies with the results published in a number of medical journals. My involvement with the trial network and close collaboration with international pharmaceutical companies has led to positions on a number of medical and pharmaceutical advisory boards as well as a busy schedule of lecturing both domestically and overseas. In 2010, I developed a weight loss and diabetes prevention program - Lintan Health, which was the first privately operated Lifestyle Modification Program to be recognised by the Australian Federal Government. An analysis of 350 consecutive participants showed an average weight loss of 5.77kg after 6 months and its success has led to myhealthexplained.com - an online health education platform launching in 2015. My Health Explained seeks to make the evidence based model of care and positive outcomes of Lintan Health available globally. Currently, my research program includes five new clinical studies into diabetes care, management and treatment, some backed by pharmaceutical companies. I am a contributor to Diabetic Living Magazine, Australia as their consultant diabetes specialist and my opinion of endocrine and metabolic disease is regularly sought by media outlets. My vision is to inspire change in individuals, corporations and government policy that will lead to a reduction in the incidence of obesity, diabetes and related health conditions.
