• Provide leadership and vision for Virginia’s state humanities council, an organization made up of 6 programs and 36 full-time staff members and under the guidance of a 25-member Board of Directors and the Office of the Provost at the University of Virginia• Manage, maintain, and grow a budget of over $7M • Advocate for Virginia Humanities and its work to state and federal legislators for the purpose of increasing public funding for specific initiatives • Lead development efforts focused on raising over $1.5M/year from private and corporate foundations, and individuals• Raised over $2.3M for capital fund to design and build Virginia Humanities’ public humanities center• Established a staff-driven inclusion and equity committee to evaluate and provide recommendations on recruiting and hiring practices, help establish a culture of belonging and continuous learning, and provide guidance for expanding access to public programs and organizational resources• Strategically align Virginia Humanities with state and national partners to expand the organization’s reach and impact

• Identify, build relationships, and make funding requests to corporate and private foundations; state and federal government agencies; and individuals• Leverage partnerships and collaborate with organizations such as the Library of Virginia, the Virginia Historical Society, and the University of Virginia Press to help reach goals• Advocate for the humanities and VFH's work to state and federal government officials to educate them so that they can see the value of and support the humanities• Plan and manage an annual budget of over $2,500,000• Hire, supervise, evaluate, and lead a staff of six direct reports • Write grants to corporate, federal, and private foundations such as the National Endowment for the Humanities and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for funding to enhance innovation and expand the impact of our mission• Convey vision for digital initiatives to VFH board members, staff, and stakeholders to establish support and buy in for digital endeavors• Support programs, staff, and scholars with digital research and project creation needs • Serve as editor and creator of Encyclopedia Virginia: establish and implement the vision for the project, coordinate workflow and determine project's metadata standards and technology requirements• Assess needs and facilitate the integration of digital technologies with other VFH programs and projects

• Hire, supervise, and support a growing staff in creating an online reference work of comprehensive, peer-reviewed, and digitally-born content focusing on Virginia's history and culture• Plan and manage an annual budget of over $1M• Certify that all grant guidelines and requirements are met when submitting and implementing grant proposals• Write grants to state, federal, and private foundations for funding to increase operations and content production• Collaborate with VFH President, Director of Development, and fundraising contractors in a $1M campaign to secure funds for the Encyclopedia• Build relationships with corporate and individual prospects and make financial requests • Facilitate the integration of Encyclopedia Virginia with other VFH programs • Design and manage development and implementation of Encyclopedia's technical architecture• Coordinate and implement workflows for creating and integrating text and media content• Establish and maintain content partnerships with other Virginia cultural organizations such as the Library of Virginia and the Virginia Historical Society• Communicate with Editorial and Technical Advisory Board members on issues related to editorial policy and technical sustainability; lead Editorial Advisory Board meetings twice yearly• Cultivate relationships with prospective writers and section editors • Manage Encyclopedia's public presence including speaking at events, presenting to political and educational constituents, and collaborating with other encyclopedia projects• Initiate and guide the request for proposal process to create EV's initial web and content management architecture• Ensure all project deadlines are met with quality and in budget
