Helping build LEEAF as a force for economic equity in Los Angeles County. Designing systems and growing capacity across the organization in partnership with the LEEAF Exec Team. Led the creation of the Outreach Team as a work of applied sociology, working with a team of students to better understand the needs of economic leaders in order to better meet those needs - and to support local economic development systems in broadening reach and advancing economic justice.

Co-founded and now co-lead a group that convenes a coalition of Cal State LA faculty, students, staff, and community partners. Work with faculty to redesign courses to increase engagement and content learning by grounding academic work in real-world movements for social change. Lead events and workshops; support interns in taking lead on projects for meaningful change; founded the Social Innovation Prize and work with student teams to incubate new movements and nonprofits.

Lead courses with 4.9 average student review score focused on charting pathways to community leadership. Developing toolkits and researching instructional models for publication along with students and colleagues: 1) increasing content learning and student retention through community-engaged action research; 2) building intersectional cultural competency; 3) incorporating cutting-edge data analysis and practical innovation to help students emerge as leaders after graduation.

Drawing from my years as an Executive Director of two successful nonprofits, I support community organizations with skilled volunteer work and low-cost consulting to build capacity and independence. I give support across the organization with three areas of focus:• Strategy & Logistics. I work with nonprofit leaders to build strong and representative governing boards, balance the interests of community stakeholders in strategic planning, and put in place strong systems for reporting and compliance so they can focus on mission.• Fundraising. Having raised $3 million from a diverse mix of foundations and individuals, I work to bring funding strategies to life with language, statistics, stories, and concrete relationship-building steps tailored to create strong relationships between donors and organizations.• Evaluation. I work to resolve the classic tension between the two functions of data – evaluating and refining the program v. generating statistics and stories – by creating robust and rigorous data systems that generate inspirational metrics and messaging organically.In my years leading nonprofits, I had plenty of experience hiring consultants who string nonprofits along without adding real value. That’s not how I work: my commitment is to build capacity and deliver concrete tools and resources for the long term.

Led new organization from idea phase to regional leadership in youth development:• Strategic growth: Gathered stakeholder input; crafted innovative program and staffing model; recruited strong board; hired and supported 5 staff; implemented system for data-driven evaluation and refinement • Program: Initiated and planned new school partnerships; designed rigorous, engaging curriculum and trained 65 teachers to use it; hired and trained program staff of 3; led growth to serve over 500 students at 7 schools • Development: Developed and executed comprehensive fund development plan, raising $1.5 million from sustainable mix of foundations, corporations, individuals, and public sources; secured major media coverage• Administration: Designed all admin systems; created and managed $700K annual budget; managed contractors and pro bono attorneys; led successful voluntary audit
