Research Assistant
I was as a research assistant with the Chemistry & Physics of interfaces (CPI) group at the University of Freiburg. Through this international collaboration between the University of Freiburg and Penn State, I studied magnetoactive polymer composites and learned much about polymer synthesis and characterization.
Engineering Maker Space Teaching Assistant
The Learning Factory is Penn State’s primary engineering workshop. Graduate and undergraduate students use the workshop for class projects, personal projects, clubs, and research. The Learning Factory is also the primary home of many clubs including robotics, formula SAE, and the Shell eco-marathon car. My role as teaching assistant is to oversee the students working on these varies projects, helping them when needed and ensuring they are following all safety protocols. Helping students includes guiding them how to use our tools and machines as well as running the laser cutter/engraver, dye sublimation printer, dura-press, and Dimensions 3D printer for them. Another major part of my position is to run both woodshop and machine shop trainings which take one and four hours respectively. These trainings are done in groups of ten students and provide them with an overview of the respective shops and how to use all of the machines through explanations, demonstrations, and group participation when it comes to the mill and lathe. This semester my role has been expanded to include inventory management in which I am in charge of shop organization and ensuring we order any materials the shop is missing.
Nuclear Engineering Eid Intern
I served as an engineering intern for the testing and qualifications team at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. In this position I designed and built a tool to help streamline future qualifications. I also gained experience writing test procedures, performing hands-on testing, and writing formal test reports.
Restore Specialist
During my time as a Restore Specialist in the Warminster ReStore, my role was to be where I was needed. This included assembling furniture, stocking shelves, rearranging the store to meet our customer’s needs, and working with our dock team to process purchases and donations. On select days I was called on to assist our truck drivers with traveling to donor’s homes, appraising their donations, and moving their donations onto our trucks. A few days I was also called on to manage the overall operations of the dock team. This experience helped me to be adaptable in my work environment, gave me valuable leadership experience, and further taught me how to work well in a team and how to diffuse situations with rude customers.
Front End Associate
As a front-end associate, my role switched between being a cashier, cart retriever, and self-checkout manager. While a cashier, my role was to handle large transactions while ensuring prompt and friendly service to all customers regardless of their demeaner. This customer service also applied while I was a cart retriever. During these shifts, my duties also included helping people bag and carry items to their cars, assisting customers in finding items, and working around shoppers while restocking items. As I continued to work for Giant, my role shifted to being a self-checkout manager. In this position I oversaw 13 self-checkout registers and worked to make sure our customers had a smooth checkout experience.
