Working on an initiative at Degreed called Degreed Experiments where we evaluate emerging technologies, especially AI, through prototyping and research.

- Research and Development in L&D- Our main product, Sparks (Automation for L&D), was acquired by Degreed in 2022.-The IP to our extended enterprise product, Sidewire, was acquired by Degreed in 2023.

Played a key role in driving innovation for HT2 Labs. A key aspect of the position involved leading a team responsible for devising and building rapid prototypes to test assumptions. This approach enabled HT2 Labs to harness customer feedback early and often as we iterated on product ideas.During this time I had a side project called Red Panda that focused on providing learners with a personalized, self-directed learning experience. In 2016 HT2 Labs acquired the assets of Red Panda bringing it inhouse as a third product in their product suite.My involvement - especially with Learning Locker and Red Panda - contributed to HT2 Labs establishing itself as an innovative and forward thinking company in the L&D space resulting in a successful acquisition.

Responsible for prototyping ideas and overseeing new product development. In this role I devised, developed and brought to market a new product called Learning Locker, the world's leading, award winning, open source Learning Record Store (http://learninglocker.net/) used by organisations such as Amazon, City and Guilds, Twitter, JISC, Nike, Xerox and Villeroy & Boch.

Responsible for a complete digital team comprising back and frontend development who devise, scope, plan and deliver appropriate digital solutions for clients ranging from TD Canada Trust to Unilever.I was responsible for providing thought leadership around digital strategy and technology both internally and for clients.

As a senior digital strategist, I was responsible for helping shape the company’s strategic direction within the digital space. A main requirement was to provide credibility and focus to clients in order to assist them in meeting their digital needs. Projects included clients such as Unilever, TD Canada Trust, RBC and Smart Car Canada.I was tasked with training/informing staff on all things tech related, especially in relation to social software, analytics and current web/mobile/email trends, in the context of tangible, strategic, outcomes for the company.

Curverider was the commercial company behind Elgg, the award winning social networking software that powers private networks for companies, universities and government bodies world-wide. Curverider was acquired in December 2010.

Elgg is an award-winning open source social networking engine that provides a robust framework on which to build all kinds of social environments, from a campus wide social network for your university, school or college or an internal collaborative platform for your organization through to a brand-building communications tool for your company and its clients.While undergoing a PhD, and after designing, building and delivering an early ePortfolio system, I realised that a change was coming to learning platforms so started designing a new type of system which had no roles or hierarchy and allowed all participants to contribute equally while controlling who could access their content. After building a simple prototype in ColdFusion and spending much of 2003/2004 promoting the idea, this initial concept became Elgg, which I co-founded.As the main driving force, I was instrumental in taking the concept and turning it into an award winning platform used by the likes of Harvard, Stanford, The World Bank, Oxfam, Canadian Government, Dutch Government, Great Ormond Street and more.

Responsible for researching emerging technologies and implementing pilots, in partnership with academic and teaching staff, to assess suitability for further roll out. Much of this work centered around blogs, wikis and ePortfolios, which were emerging at the time.

Started out playing bass then switched to guitar in an alternative rock band. Enjoyed supporting acts such as Idlewild, Snow Patrol, Mogwai and Puressence.
