Working as a delivery driver and in-shop employee at Jimmy John's has allowed me to learn how to (1) provide professional customer service and (2) be an effective member of a team.My customer service skills have developed due to the immense number of interactions I have had with customers. Over the past few years, I have interacted with thousands of customers, both in person and over the phone. Teamwork is another skill I have learned during my time at Jimmy Johns. While working as an in-shop employee, I have coordinated with up to four other employees in the process of taking, assembling, packaging, and distributing orders. While working as a driver, I have worked with up to seven other drivers in order to ensure the efficient delivery of 15+ orders at a time.

Tutoring other students at the University of Iowa has improved my skills in three categories: (1) communication, (2) planning/organization, and (3) subject-related. First, I have honed my communication skills by helping students understand concepts with which they are struggling. Coordinating with students, in order to set appointments and outline expectations for meetings, has also been critical for my development.Secondly, my planning and organizational skills have improved as a result of this position. I have been responsible for setting my own schedule and rates. In some cases, it has been necessary to balance the schedule of up to five students with my own academic schedule and that required by my other job. These responsibilities have enhanced my time management and book-keeping capabilities.Finally, teaching others has strengthened my core understanding of the key ideas related to the subjects for which I am tutoring. Constantly reviewing content and explaining it to others has been shown to be one of the most effective techniques for mastering any material. Some examples of subjects for which I have tutored include accounting, statistics, and logic.
