Duane Nelson is the Chief Legal and Risk Officer for Westchester and advised on the formation of a $2 billion global closed end investment fund focused on farmland investments, a $3 billion global closed end investment fund, a fund focused on European farmland investments and an open end investment fund. Prior to joining Westchester, Duane was the Associate General Counsel in the Asset Management Law area of TIAA. He has over 25 years of experience in real estate, real estate finance, capital markets, loan workouts, and securities, as well as the formation of private equity funds. Duane was counsel for real estate investments at Citigroup Alternative Investments where he was responsible for an $8 billion global real estate investment unit portfolio and involved in the formation of 15 debt and equity funds including the CPI North American, European and Asian Opportunity Funds, and eight real estate funds sponsored by Travelers Insurance and Tishman Speyer. Prior to the merger with Citibank, Mr. Nelson worked with The Travelers Insurance Company on a $20 billion real estate loan portfolio, which included commercial, timber and agricultural lending. Mr. Nelson earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. in Economics from Yale University.
