Graduate Student Researcher

Current
  • Conducted an electrophysiology project on elucidating mechanisms of actions of Spec 36 specificity on Kir 3.1-containing subunit
  • Performed TEVC to generate results to produce supporting data for the paper on a role of Spec 36 in the regulation of GIRK (Kir3) heterotetramers channels
  • Executed site-directed mutagenesis tests to verify critical binding sites and elucidate the drug-ligand binding mechanisms of Spec 36 on homomeric and heteromeric GIRK channels
  • Participated in weekly lab journal club meetings to discuss and analyze biomedical-related scientific papers to enhance the understanding of the pharmacology and pathophysiology of GPCR (G-protein-coupled receptors).

Sep 2023 - Present

Undergraduate Thesis

  • Conducted a project about overviewing drugs differentiate between homomeric& heteromeric subunits of GIRK (Kir3) channels
  • Performed electrophysiology technique (TEVC – two-electrode-voltage clamp) to produce dose-response curves of IVM (Ivermectin), VU0529331, and Spec 59 and assess their selectivity for GIRK 2, GIRK 4, GIRK 1/2, and GIRK.
  • Executed site-directed mutagenesis tests to verify critical binding sites and elucidated drug-receptor interaction mechanisms of VU05239931 and Spec 59 on GIRK 4
  • Elucidated mechanisms of actions of small molecules that target GIRK (G protein-gated inwardly rectifying K+) channels as well as examine the dependence of GIRKs activity on phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2)
