What's Cooking was a community-wide initiative to celebrate food-related businesses and entrepreneurs in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County culminating in a Concept Plan Competition. A partnership with the City of Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, the Friendly City Food Co-op and the Shenandoah Valley Small Business Development Center, this FREE innovative program assisted food entrepreneurs with consultation, training, networking and awards.

Shenandoah Caverns, Virginia

Facilitated all advertising and media for family owned and operated tourist attraction open to the public since 1922. Responsible for all things external including community and public relations, social media, group tour sales and served on several trade association boards. Strategy, design and facilitation of all marketing and advertising across several media platforms. Developed and maintained complex website and introduced new applications such as on-line ticketing. Created content and art direction for all advertising campaigns, directory listings, scripts and story boards for video. Maintained brochure distribution and negotiated annual contracts for 600,000+ travel folders. Sought after for participation on panels, feasibility studies and other tourism development initiatives.

Developed marketing materials, promotional products and design for merchandise, and assisted with sales of the conference center services. Designed fund-raising materials, produced a 6 minute promotional video and developed a dynamic website. Also provided interior design expertise and review of the construction documents for the design-build contract to rehabilitate the Historic Hotel.

Harrisonburg, Virginia

Director of Visitor Center operations for the non-profit organization, including 15 full and part time employees. Tripled funding and membership participation in just three years by facilitating stakeholder meetings and gathering support for the program. Developed primary brand recognition with the Board of Directors that included a new logo design, a comprehensive website, and targeted advertising. Leveraged local advertising dollars for collaborative destination marketing projects, wrote and administrated grants. Instrumental in helping Harrisonburg become a VA Main Street Community, the formation of the Rockingham Cluster of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, and many other economic development projects initiated to enhance the tourism product. Attracted and hosted three major events for the summer of 2005, including the Tour of Shenandoah, The Ford Model T International Excursion and the 23rd annual Great American Race

Trained student staff on front-line customer service and travel information services. Presented educational training programs on behalf of JMU for the Association of College Unions International Conferences. Responsible for the budget of both UCC Marketing & University Information departments. Developed the Welcome Center at JMU Admissions, a visitor center with local travel information.
