I’ve been at Colmar Brunton, now Kantar, for over 25 years, starting out in 1996 as a Marketing Scientist in a team of two. After a few years of purely data analytics work, I started dealing more with clients, eventually taking up a dual role of Account Manager – Marketing Scientist. I took over the Head of Marketing Science role for New Zealand in 2003 and have run the team in NZ since then, while also becoming a Group Account Director. In July 2015, my team and role expanded further to Marketing Science Director, AUNZ, encompassing both the Colmar Brunton NZ and Millward Brown Australia Marketing Science teams. In July 2021, Kantar completed the purchase of Colmar Brunton in New Zealand and my role changed to focus primarily on New Zealand analytics work and clients, with a new title as Senior Analytics Director for Kantar NZ.I specialise in advanced analytics including segmentation, conjoint analysis and choice modelling, big data and pricing research.I love dealing with numbers, the feeling at the start of a project when anything is possible but all you have to start with is a whole bunch of 0’s and 1’s or 1-10 scales. We take those big, sometimes messy, datasets and transform them into any of a number of things – a pricing strategy, a customer segmentation, market share or volumes from a new product launch, information to help optimise the ROI of your media spend or what to focus on to improve brand equity or customer satisfaction. The list goes on and on.If you have some numbers related to sport, that might just be my personal holy grail!I am obviously most familiar with our own type of survey data, but have a lot of experience dealing with large external databases, either customer or transactional databases and making sense of them and what they mean for you.
