Andre Duncan became a high school football coach in 2000 and founded Duncan’s Athletic Training in Charleston in 2002. His program evaluates each athlete to determine how best to optimize their speed, agility, technique, and strength. The program provides professional instruction tailored to maximize each individual athlete’s potential and performance. In January 2012, Andre Duncan founded the South Carolina Ravens to give professional athletes a second chance to play football under a professional athletic trainer and coach. The players will maintain their professional status in order to remain eligibility to play in CFL or NFL. He is accepting corporate sponsors for the team’s inaugural season in the summer of 2025.In July 2015, Andre, who is the nephew of Charleston shooting victim Myra Thompson of the Emanuel AME Church, rode the #IamCharleston bus to Capitol Hill with Charleston families and leaders. They stood with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Members of Congress to demand a vote for H.R. 1217. This bipartisan legislation would provide $400 million to states to enter records of people prohibited from buying guns, and would expand Brady background checks to gun shows and online sales.“#IamCharleston, and I demand a vote,” Andre told Congress, before a phalanx of cameras from ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Canada’s CBC, and the UK’s Channel 4 and Sky News. CNN anchor Don Lemon interviewed him on the day that South Carolina took down the Confederate battle flag. Andre told Don that while it is a hopeful sign that this hateful symbol came down, Congress still needs to expand and fund Brady background checks to keep guns out of dangerous hands.
