Discovered chemical probe for CBP/p300 bromodomain. Utilized structure-based drug design to optimize a weak and non-selective fragment into a potent, selective and cell-active probe compound. Synthesized ~200 test compounds in pursuit of probe also developed new skills in protein expression/purification and isothermal titration calorimetry.

Developed routes to challenging targets which helped projects to meet targets. Key part of a strategy group which aimed to highlight and solve solid form issues early on in the discovery process. Chaired Seminar Committee which organised symposia with invited academic speakers. Led a contractor chemistry team and supervised a placement student and project students. Championed the introduction of technology, such as parallel synthesis equipment and microwave synthesizers.

Synthesized monomers and designed protocols for larger library chemistry resulting in successful delivery of large numbers of new targets to various projects. Investigated hits from high-throughput screens to generate new lead matter for medicinal chemistry projects.
