About Dustin Hamby

I’ve been drawn to nonprofit work for as long as I can remember. it started as side jobs and ways to help pay for college but soon became the focus of my career instead of the field I was majoring in. The idea of doing something meaningful, of contributing through my efforts that make the world a better place, seemed like the best possible way to use my talents and skills.Perhaps losing my dad at an early age helped me to be more sensitive to the struggles that others may be going through. I take pride in doing anything I possibly can to make connections with other people so that they know I care about them.Like many people, my life experiences have broadened my knowledge and empathy on how to better support youth and families. Now working with Big Brothers Big Sisters, I am thrilled to be a valuable part of a person’s early life by giving them positive experiences that encourage confidence and growth. If you asked my colleagues to describe me, they would probably include: My passion: I want to be an active participant in the world around me. In addition to wanting to affect youth development, safety and protection, I am also passionate about animal welfare, climate care/ecology, international peacekeeping, and freedom of speech. My leadership: When I see an opportunity, I don’t hesitate to jump in to make it happen. I am known as someone who is there when help is needed during unexpected emergencies. My thirst for knowledge: I am a voracious reader of everything. fiction, non-fiction, genre novels, philosophical works, journals, biographies, newspapers, and poetry. I read 100+ books per year. My creativity: I love to write, both creatively and journaling. I have written blogs and information for the agencies I’ve worked for and their websites. I enjoy the arts and the process of artistic expression. My commitment to excellence: I devote my time and energy to make the organization a success and expand its mission. I am a hard worker and give 110% to the task at hand.My versatility and adaptability: These days change seems to happen faster and faster. My prior experiences help me to fit into different roles and quickly make a contribution.I know the power of helping others with their challenges. I’d like to be known as a caring, competent, and passionate person whose efforts made a difference.
