I’ve been fortunate to have been exposed to a broad range of roles throughout my career, which include: Electrician, Test Technician, Network Planning Engineer, Substation Design Engineer, Protection Engineer, along with my past role as an IEC 61850 Systems Engineer/Project Manager with the Siemens Australia Energy Automation business unit. This experience has paved the way for me to pursue a long-time aspiration of extending the family business (Tesco Group) into the power system design/engineering domain. Iec 61850 Systems Engineer/Project ManagerSiemens Apr 2011 - May 2013Sydney, AustraliaI fulfilled two roles while with Siemens. As a product manager for the SIPROTEC/SICAM product line I was focused on the sales/marketing aspect of the business, with emphasis paid on promoting Siemens' solutions that were built off an IEC 61850 architecture. In the second role - project manager - I was responsible for managing Energy Automation's component of large-scale/at-risk LNG projects. With the support of a strong team, I was successful in turning around these financially strained projects, having taken them from a negative to a positive GM. In this role, I was responsible for overseeing a diverse number of resources, including protection engineers, design engineers, project engineers, commissioning and wiring subcontractors, drafters, document controllers, etc. The focus of the Siemens EA Systems business is to take the client’s piecemeal products – be it Siemens or non-Siemen’s IEDs – and integrate them into a comprehensive system that’s built-upon interoperable standards, namely IEC 61850. As such, I was actively involved in both formulating the responses to our secondary system tenders, as well as providing the technical support for each protection & control system that leaves the door. Consulted and provided technical support services to various Australian/New Zealand utilities, system integrators, value-added resellers, among others. Developed technical reports, including IEC 61850 Standard Design Guidelines, SICAM PAS & PAScc Standard Design Manuals, SICAM PAS & PAScc Project Template Files, Substation Automation System Troubleshooting/Investigation Reports, IEC 61850 Development Lab Processes, Functional Design Specifications, just to name a few. -
