Senior Mechanical Engineer
Alameda, California
Sr. Engineer and Micro-turbine Program LeadWrightspeed, LLCLead engineer and program manager for the Fulcrum micro turbine. This roll is truly interdisciplinary, as it was a mix of engineering, project, team and budget management. Developed the micro turbine from an initial marketing requirement, designed functional prototypes and led the project to production. In addition to having led the project, personal responsibilities included 1D cycle simulation and 3D CFD simulation for the entire engine. Worked with Tier 1 industry suppliers to collaboratively design the bearings, compressor stage, turbine stage, and the high speed alternator, and heat recuperator. Responsible for CAD models and 2D drawings for the entire engine, writing the testing and validation plans, as well as designing the fixtures and instrumenting the turbine for testing. Assisted in design of two other major systems in the Wrightspeed series hybrid powertrain including the battery pack and gear box. Optimized cooling for the battery pack using CFD, assisted in designing the support structure to mount the modules to the truck chassis. Performed FEA on the enclosures, buss bars, and mounting structures to optimize the design for weight while still ensuring crash safety could be maximized.Assisted in the design of final drive section of the gear box which included selection of bearings, CAD design and performed FEA of the shafts and housings. Worked with the gear box team to assist in global packaging and overall system design. Created performance and 1D simulation for determining the number and ratios of gears.Established the engineering workflow and drawing release process for the engineering department and helped to build a culture of engineering rigor.
